Day Twenty

  1. Bill Wilson and Bob Smith met on this date in 1935.  (It’s technically 1:00 am on the 11th, but it’s still June 10 to me.)  They had absolutely no concept of how many lives would be changed by that encounter.
  2. I started texting “happy 80th anniversary” texts to program friends and was shortly amazed by how many there are.  For someone who is so traditionally isolated, it’s quite amazing and almost makes all those miserable hangovers worthwhile.
  3. The Empire State Building when it’s lit in classic white.
  4. The time I spent as a “doorman” there, that summer as a rising senior.  We basically just herded tourists into elevators and told them there were no bathrooms, but it was a pivotal time and gave me some great memories that I’ll add as separate points.
  5. Speaking of which:  the opportunity to observe the lifers working there who had bottles stashed all over the place, like in fire call boxes or on landings between floors.  Those men were filed in my mental index cards and stood for years as an example of what could lay ahead.

Many thanks,

Me
