Day Thirty-five

  1. The laser pointer, though Holly, for a cat, has a curiously laissez-faire attitude towards a little red dot running along the floor.  She’ll give it a swat or two and even got up off the couch to investigate, but mostly she just seems to accept it.
  2. The 4 Train.  There are several lines I’m partial to for various reasons, but the 4 is my favorite.  It’s old and runs on some of the original tracks, it’s a color I like, green, and it hits my favorite stations, Wall St, Union Square, Grand Central, and is the train to the Met and Brooklyn Bridge, not to mention Yankee Stadium.
  3. The Lex line platform at Union Square.  That mention above deserves some clarification:  it’s not the station as a whole that is my favorite, but the Lexington line platforms with those steel extensions bridging the gaps between the curving concrete and the doors.  The overpasses from which you can look down on the tracks and the roof of the trains.  And then the general kinetic energy of the place, particularly on a Friday or Saturday, as the gateway to the Village.
