- Dad and Cherry’s cabin in Elijay. It’s my first time here alone. I prefer it with people.
- The deer I counted on my way to my meeting in downtown Elijay.
- The meeting, with several old timers, including one guy celebrating 41 years, and several newcomers. Lots of locals: a guy with a big black beard and Harley bandana; a young mom, who passed the baby around; a very skinny, very white inbred-looking fellow wearing a camouflage GA Bulldogs cap and cammo pants. Not a lot of yuppies there. One of the old-timers was treating people with candy and gave me a hug. I shared about my first meeting and how all I remembered was the little sign the said, “we will love you until you can love yourself,” and how badly I needed to hear that because I was so filled with self-loathing (a tendency that is creeping back in), and about the feeling of “home” that I get in the rooms; how I drove past the church and couldn’t tell where the meeting was, as it was all dark, but then saw some folks smoking on the corner and the lit spilling out into the street and I knew those were my people.
- A chocolate milkshake from Dairy Queen – or “The Dairy Queen” as it is known in small towns.
- The gigantic spider who built the spiderweb I walked into on the porch. The web was so big and so thick it was almost audibly breaking as I walked through it, and the spider was so huge I pulled my collar tight around my neck and crouched down into myself every time I had to cross under him.
Many thanks,
Me
