Day One Hundred-eight

  1. Steve Jobs, the man who had such an enormous impact on my life.  I’m tapping this out on an iPhone right now.
  2. “Steve Jobs” the movie, which I saw this afternoon.  There’s a line, spoken by him:  “God sent his only son to Earth on a suicide mission, but we love him anyway because he made trees.”  Yeah.  And I watch that and wonder whether the notion that it is better to be a good man than a great man is just a lie told to ourselves by those of us who never did anything to change the world. This is obviously a more complicated topic for me than will fit in a gratitude entry; the gratitude is, I guess, for having been given the meat to chew on.  And for the efforts of the filmmakers to tell us goodness and greatness are not mutually exclusive.
  3. This little park on Fulton and Gold.  It’s quiet and there some tree frogs chirping.  If that’s possible in New York in October.
  4. The FDNY.  There’s a truck parked down the block.
  5. The couple a few benches away who appear to be breaking up.  The girl is crying and the guy keeps talking.  They might just be fighting.  In any case it’s a reminder of something I don’t have going on right now and I try to remind myself to be grateful for every unreturned  OKCupid message; better now than later.

Many thanks,

Me
