- The people like Dario, my favorite doorman, who work so, so hard. He works a full shift from 4 to noon here at JFK, then a full shift at the building from 3 to 11. He sleeps 3 hours a night. And he’s always, miraculously so cheerful. All the windows with their lights on, on my way to JFK at 5:30. All those people waking up so early for work. So many of them working so hard for so little. Bless them.
- I upgraded myself for today’s flight to Maui. I’m sitting in the Delta Lounge now and not at all comfortable with the class stratification involved. But I am comfortable with a quiet place to wait and knowing I’ll have extra legroom and “complementary” snacks and that the flight attendants will be nice to me all the way through today’s 14-hour journey. Still a full two hours shorter than Dario’s day.
- I landed safely in LA. Four-hour layover here.
- I’ve been in the Sky Club the past two hours and as I was struggling to resist the cruel temptation of this jar of free cookies, I noticed there was an open bar right next to them. How incredibly grateful am I that I crave the free cookie and not the free bourbon?
- falling into bed after such a long, long day.
Many thanks,
Me
