1. I saw Charlie today at the nursing home.
2. He thought he was in a business meeting. When I first saw him he said hello and that they were holding elections. I thought for a moment there was an actual meeting going on, but none of the other people in the day room seemed even aware of my presence. But Charlie was engaged and alert and so involved in the meeting in his head. Of all the places he could imagine himself to be, he find himself someplace safe. He has a safe place to go to.
3. I have that place, too.
4. I showed up for him. I didn’t want to go. An hour up and an hour back for five minutes, but it was worth it. I was able to do that.
5. He is safe and well taken care of. People there are looking after him.
