Day One Hundred Seventy-one

  1. In Colorado Springs for business, safely arriving at 3:00 am.
  2. The speaker tonight who’s 45, sober 20 years and in CO Spring because he’s dying of bone cancer and needed to be near family.  I didn’t hear an ounce of self-pity; only gratitude and the desperate desire to be of service right up to the end.
  3. The beefy bald guy with a skull tattooed on his head, eyes facing backwards.  In gothic script across his neck:  “Trust No One.”
  4. The biker with the big grey beard, a knife on his belt and a black leather vest covered with patches of AA slogans.  “One Day at a Time.”  “Easy Does it.”  A circle and triangle.
  5. The drunk dream I had last night, where I’d been drinking for months and lying about my time.  I was so grateful upon waking that it was just a dream.

Many thanks,

Me
